The Nordic AML Meeting 2026 held on Sep 16 -18th 2026 in Bergen, brought together researchers and clinicians from across the Nordic countries to discuss recent advances in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) caring and research, with a particular focus on TP53-mutated disease and FLT3-targeted therapies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The challenge of treating TP53-mutated AML, one of the highest-risk AML subgroups, was extensively discussed. Presentations highlighted the complex biology of TP53 and the role of p53 isoforms in providing additional prognostic and predictive information, the poor prognosis associated with TP53 mutations, the leukemic transformation and the complexity in disease classification and risk stratification within this patient group. Contemporary and novel therapeutic staregies targeting mutant p53, with particular emphasis on combination approaches to improve therapeutic efficacy were addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting provided insights into FLT3 biology and highlighted key advances in the clinical development of FLT3 inhibitors for the management of AML, addressing both therapeutic successes and ongoing challenges. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of FLT3 inhibition, measurable residual disease (MRD) monitoring, and NPM1 testing in informing transplantation strategies and guiding maintenance therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special feature of this year\u2019s meeting was industry-sponsored sessions broadcast online, engaging participants in expert talks and discussions on the evolving AML treatment approach and landscape, updates from ongoing clinical trials, as well as on how technologies can improve the understanding of treatment resistance and facilitate more personalized treatment strategies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A joint initiative between the NAMLG and the Nordic MDS Group provided specialized hematology training for Nordic physicians involved in the care of patients with MDS and AML. In addition, the Nurses\u2019 Day program facilitated valuable discussions on improving the care of young AML patients, with a particular focus on rehabilitation, quality of life, and home-based care.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
